The 2024 Beijing Great Wall Cultural Festival will kick off with an opening gala on Friday, featuring performances by over 20 art troupes. This event will promise a cultural extravaganza centered on the iconic Great Wall.
Beijing's six districts that are situated along the Great Wall – Pinggu, Miyun, Huairou, Changping, Yanqing, and Mentougou – will present a myriad of Great Wall-related stories. Art groups from the neighboring Tianjin municipality and Hebei province will join them, together offering national intangible cultural heritage showcases, traditional operas, and other kinds of performances.
The gala will demonstrate the achievements of building the Great Wall Cultural Belt and the Great Wall National Cultural Park, said Dong Ning, deputy general manager of Beijing Performance & Arts Group, a co-organizer of the show.
"The Great Wall is not only a cultural legacy of China, but also a symbol cherished worldwide," said He Xiaobin, chief director of the gala. Therefore, a blend of Chinese and international art performances will be brought to the audiences, including dance, traditional opera, recitation, folk music, and symphony, he said.
