The 2024 Beijing-Hangzhou Dialogue will be held in Hangzhou this month. As a sideline event, a Grand Canal-themed cultural activity was launched in Beijing on Thursday.

Themed "Hello! The Grand Canal," the event invites foreign visitors and representatives from domestic and international media outlets to travel south along the Grand Canal. The trip will bring the participants to cities such as Beijing, Yangzhou, and Hangzhou to explore the cultural resources of the Grand Canal.

The group began their journey at the Beijing section of the Grand Canal, visiting the Tongzhou Grand Canal Forest Park and cultural landmarks like the Beijing Library and the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing.

Members of the group said that the Grand Canal has undergone significant changes over the past decade with improved environment, reflecting people's aspirations for a better life.

At the launch ceremony, the musical "Northward" was officially released. Adapted from author Xu Zechen's Mao Dun Literature Prize-winning novel of the same name, the play tells an epic story set along the ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Grand Canal being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The sideline event was jointly organized by the Information Office of the Beijing Municipal People's Government, the Information Office of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government, China News Service, and the World Historic and Cultural Canal Cities Cooperation Organization.
