A cultural exchange event themed on "Charming Beijing," organized by the Information Office of the Beijing Municipal People's Government, was held in Auckland, New Zealand, on Monday.

The event was attended by representatives from the Consulate-General of China in Auckland, New Zealand government agencies, China Cultural Center in Auckland, and various sectors of New Zealand.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and New Zealand.

Mike Dawson, president of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand China Friendship Society, said that embracing diverse cultures is a common trait of both Beijing and Auckland. He said he looks forward to more exchanges between the two cities.

Dawson also recalled his numerous trips to China, and said he was deeply impressed by Beijing's status as an international metropolis that has undergone rapid development while preserving its traditions and heritage.

Moreover, a variety of cultural activities were held during the event. The Baihua Art Troupe, composed of local Chinese artists, performed well-known Chinese and New Zealand folk songs and presented traditional Chinese dance performances, showcasing that the charm of Chinese classical art extends beyond language barriers.

In addition, guests from both China and New Zealand savored the Beijing jasmine tea, whose making method has been included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, and experienced the fun of painting Peking Opera masks.
