The 30th Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) opened at the China National Convention Center in Beijing on Wednesday, featuring more than 220,000 publications and 1,600 exhibitors from 71 countries and regions under the theme of deepening mutual learning among civilizations and cooperating for a win-win future. Saudi Arabia is this year's guest of honor.

The five-day book fair has set up various exhibition zones catering to diverse interests, including the Fine Publication Exhibition Zone, Overseas Exhibition Zone, Domestic Professional Publication Exhibition Zone, and a zone for the guest of honor and national and regional joint exhibitions.

On the first day, the Beijing exhibition zone, showcasing local literary gems, garnered significant attention from both domestic and international visitors. A collection of the latest books on Beijing's history and culture captivated readers, with books featuring old photographs of the city proving to be favorites.

At the zone's inaugural event, Professor Wei Guangqi of Capital Normal University, a native Beijinger and chief editor of a book on Beijing's unique hutong charm, gave a talk on the rich traditional culture within the hutongs, delving into neighborhood relationships, family stories, and the customs and traditions of old Beijingers.

The Beijing exhibition zone also welcomed a delegation of publishers from the United Kingdom, Italy, Slovakia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, India, Brazil, Argentina, Rwanda, and Uganda on the fair's first day.
