Editor's note:
A tunnel beneath the Yunchaojian River in eastern Beijing was completed on June 25, marking the final breakthrough for all tunnels on the new Beijing-Tangshan Intercity Railway. Construction of the tunnel, which began in late December 2023, was facilitated by a domestically produced tunnel boring machine (TBM), ensuring efficient progress.
The high-speed railway will connect Beijing Sub-Center Station in the capital's eastern Tongzhou district to Tangshan Station in neighboring Hebei province. Spanning 149 kilometers, the line is designed to operate at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour.
