An Israeli soldier was killed and 16 others wounded by roadside bombs during a raid in the city of Jenin in the northern West Bank on Thursday, the military said in a statement.
The Palestinian official news agency WAFA reported that large Israeli forces raided a pharmacy and private homes in Jenin, injuring a Palestinian youth.
The military said that during the overnight raid, aimed at apprehending militant suspects, the troops drove over roadside bombs buried about a meter and a half underground. The blast injured several soldiers. As more forces arrived to assist the wounded, another bomb detonated, killing Alon Sacgiu, 22, the sniper team commander of the Haruv Reconnaissance Unit.
Sixteen more troops sustained injuries of different severities, with one in severe condition.
