Tunisia sent on Thursday a plane loaded with 14 tons of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported.

"The plane took off from the Tunis-Carthage International Airport in the capital Tunis to El-Arish International Airport in North Sinai, an Egyptian province bordering Gaza," Mustapha Ferjani, minister-advisor to the Tunisian president, was quoted by the TAP as saying.

"Tunisia continues its support for the Palestinian brothers in their heroic resistance against the war crimes and destruction committed by the occupying army," Ferjani said, condemning the violations and crimes committed in the Gaza Strip, "the most heinous of which is the famine affecting infants, children, pregnant women and the elderly."

On Wednesday, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) warned that the entire Gaza Strip is at high risk of famine.

The alarm was raised as a new report has shown that almost the entire population is facing "acute food insecurity, with 1 in 5 Gazans being on the verge of famine," FAO stated.
