The Global Digital Economy Conference 2024 raised its curtain at the China National Convention Center in Beijing on Tuesday and will run until Friday. This event features nearly 80 enterprises showcasing advanced digital technologies that empower the future of finance, medical care, education, transportation, and other fields.

Among the highlights, over a dozen enterprises will present their latest large model applications. These models, which have been integrated with smartphones and robots, leverage the computing power of these devices to maintain operation even without internet connectivity, according to a staff member of an artificial intelligence (AI) company.

To address data security concerns in the metaverse, Beijing-based Super Red Company has introduced its latest virtual reality device featuring iris recognition. This technology ensures rapid recognition and verification of user identities, providing an effective solution for identity security, according to the company.

Moreover, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the ancient Liangzhu culture through digital technologies. This immersive experience enables them to enter the exhibition space as digital avatars, work and hunt alongside ancient ancestors, and immerse in the rich 5,000-year history of Chinese civilization.

The event will also debut several domestic technological innovations, including China's first mass-produced full-function Data Processing Unit (DPU) chip, the K2-Pro.

A forum on AI was also held on Monday as a sideline event of the conference. The forum featured in-depth discussions by experts and business leaders on the exploration and application of large models.

Beijing has released 71 large model products, accounting for about half of the national total, demonstrating significant achievements in the development of its AI industry, officials said at the forum.

The Chinese capital plans to enhance regional cooperation, optimize policies, and promote the application of technological products, aiming to provide a solid foundation for the upgrading and transformation of various industries, according to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology.
