A woman in a patient clothes leaning on her hospital bed was waiting for her pipa player.
Hua Ning (her alias), a critically ill patient, has struggled with heart disease for over 25 years.
Seventeen days earlier, Hua was sent to a local hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) after unexpectedly fainting.
For a person who has a history of heart disease, this was a matter of serious concern, and all her organ functions began to decline.
Thanks to the doctors' hard work, Hua survived and did not need the trachea cannula for now.
"I want to hear a pipa song." Such a little wish entered into Hua's mind when she overheard a doctor say that young doctors want to start a band and also there's one who can play pipa -- a plucked Chinese string instrument.
Hua told the director of the ICU her wish and Zhang Xinning, the pipa player, was asked to perform a song for Hua.
"When I carried my pipa and walked into Hua's ward, I believed that we had created a miracle," Zhang said.
Why is that?
It turned out that Zhang was one of the doctors who participated in Hua's emergency rescue several days earlier, and now looking at a recovered Hua, Zhang couldn't help but utter the above words.
The doctor played a lively song with the pipa for Hua, who was excited to give a thumbs-up to Zhang after hearing it. "How can I deserve such beautiful music," Hua said.
This five-minute performance was a celebration of life and conveyed hopes for a brighter future to Hua.
