The Architecture and Culture Society of China (ACSC) unveiled a list of the "new top 10 landmark buildings in Shanghai" on Jan. 6.

The iconic Shanghai Tower at the heart of the Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone tops the list. The National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), venue for the China International Import Expo, and the Shanghai World Expo Cultural Center (now the Mercedes-Benz Arena) also rank high.

All the candidates were completed between 1978 and 2019, and deemed to have distinctive characteristics of the times of Shanghai's reform and opening up, while the winners stood out based on their architectural culture, aesthetics and influence, according to the ACSC.

The venue is an indoor arena located on the former grounds of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo in Pudong New Area.

It is sponsored in a ten-year deal by Mercedes-Benz, and was officially renamed the Mercedes-Benz Arena on January 15, 2011. It is able to seat 18,000 people, and includes a smaller venue suitable for live music events.
