A list of the 2021 top 100 districts and county-level cities with the most prosperous nighttime economy in China was issued recently by Xiaokang Magazine, affiliated to the Qiushi Journal, a flagship journal of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
The nighttime economy refers to business activities that take place between 8pm and 6am in the service sector and includes catering, entertainment, tourism, and transportation services. A growing number of merchants are capitalizing on this extra business time to expand their retail opportunities.
According to China Nighttime Economy Development Report 2020 released by the China Tourism Academy, 11.6% of the national first, second, and third-class museums now remain open until the evening, as well as 22.8% and 20.4% of national 5A and 4A scenic spots.
Movie theaters, community parks, and commercial pedestrian streets, offer residents more access to nighttime leisure activities. In addition, exercise, square dancing, Chinese Xiangsheng or crosstalk, music festivals, and night markets, are also popular activities chosen by people to pursue a more colorful nighttime life.
More than 80% of respondents surveyed by the Report said their cultural, leisure, and consumption nighttime needs are largely fulfilled.
As China's nighttime economy continues to grow well into this year, we take a look at the top 10 districts and county-level cities with the most prosperous night economy in China in 2021.
